Historic Oak Grove School Before Restoration

Welcome to Historic Oak Grove School!

The Washington Town Community Assn., Inc. is proud to present to the Bethania and Winston-Salem communities the preservation of a bit of history known as Washington Town, a predominately Black community.  Washington Town was part of the original 2,500 acre tract of Bethania, which was founded in 1759.

After Restoration

The Washington Town community was founded by freed slaves and is now known as the Oak Grove Community.  The decendents of the Washington family donated the land on which the Oak Grove School was built.  The Oak Grove School was built around 1910.
